Summer Camp 2014 was a lot of fun. The Troop departed on Saturday morning and arrived four hours later. Everyone was excited to walk into our campsite, Achgetum. There were 18 Scouts at Camp Powhatan and a number of adults too. The new scouts cooked the first three meals in dutch ovens before camp officially started. This year, we had a strong group of boys participate in Brown Sea Island, the new scout program. Also, two scouts participated in Mountain Man at Camp Ottari, and two more participated in New River Adventure. After the Troop registered and said goodbye to the guys doing Mountain Men, everyone took their swim test. We then took a tour of the large summer camp. Each night the Troop dressed up for dinner and lined up at the assembly field. Sunday night, there was a fantastic opening campfire run by the staff in the auditorium. Then, on Monday morning everyone started their activities. Over the week, there were special theme nights, Chapel Services, merit badges, and open blobs for the scouts to attend. The food had room for improvement, but the camp's program was hard to beat. We had guys horseback riding, white-water rafting, rock climbing, and many other things. Many Merit Badges were earned and lots of fun was had. After OK food, good merit badges, and maybe even a snake visit to the campsite, the week was finished with the closing campfire and the OA call-out Ceremony. Then, on Saturday morning, Troop 799 left after a great week of summer camp. Check the Troop Facebook Group for more pictures.
